Wellbeing and Inclusion

 Mrs Courtney Hoffmann

What a sensational week it has been at Karoo PS!  From fun on Harmony Day, to adventures at Garden Club, and the start of the Wellbeing groups, it has been a week full of excitement!

Harmony Day

What a successful day! The colour and the excitement was seen and felt across our school.  Our students were able to engage in a range of cultural activities which supported them to make connections and to be exposed to new learning.  I have heard countless times from students, across the school, how it was the best day ever!

A HUGE congratulations to all for their engagement and to Miss Barton for organising such a fantastic day!

Garden Club

The positive impact garden club has on our school community continues to grow each week.  This week the students decide it was time to 'clean' up the courtyard near the staffroom to 'make sure our teachers had a nice place to relax and feel special.'  As a result the Garden Club team cleaned up the area and the teachers were incredibly grateful for the efforts of our students and how they continue to make our school a better place!

'I can't thank our Garden Club team enough! To make a place special for us, was incredibly kind!' (Year 3 teacher).

Wellbeing Student Leadership Team

The Wellbeing Student Leadership Team have begun to meet and put into action a range of initiatives to support the wellbeing of the students at Karoo PS.  Our Wellbeing Leadership Team are Aaliyah Brearley, Lucy Vallence, Mia Mastroianni, Rachel Bartley, Ethan Taptopulos-Kyriacou, Ojas Chauhan, Aaron Michaliades, and Lana Paulette and  few of their recent initiatives are:

Morning Welcome

Each morning you will now hear a friendly welcome from our wellbeing leaders.  In the morning welcome the leaders will not only welcome you to the day but share a daily quote with our school community to help inspire you to have an amazing day! Be on the lookout for the next quote each morning.

Kindness Tree

A Kindness Tree has also been identified by our wellbeing leaders.  Into next term you will be able to watch the tree and seats around it transform into a place where students can go to find kindness at lunchtime and afternoon break time.

Wellbeing Groups

Wellbeing groups have begun at Karoo PS this week.  So many students are so excited to be able to engage in further learning about life long skills and strategies.  I look forward to hearing all of the exciting new learning about social skills and growth mindset!

Respectful Relationships and Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)

Respectful Relationships takes a whole-school approach and recognises that schools are places of learning and a key part of local communities.  It embeds a culture of respect and equity across our entire school community, from our classrooms to our staffrooms, sporting fields, social media and social events.

As part of Respectful Relationships, throughout the school year, all students across our school engage in learning through the 8 units of the RRRR curriculum.  In term 1, our students will be participating lessons focusing on Unit 1: Emotional Literacy.

Emotional literacy is described as the ability to understand ourselves and other people.  This includes the ability to understand, express and manage our own emotions, build empathy and to respond appropriately to the emotions of others.  The student focus on building their emotional vocabulary which helps increase emotional literacy, self awareness and empathy for others.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you around the school!

Kind Regards,
