Minimum Standards

Congratulations to Ethan Lowen who is the first 2023 Year 10 cohort student to pass his Reading Minimum Standards test. Sid O'Brien was the second student to complete and pass his Reading test. These two students were our trailblazers for the beginning of the testing process. Well done!

Year 10 students will be completing these tests in Reading, Writing and Numeracy over the next few months in preparation for completing their Year 10 RoSA or for HSC attainment.

Year 7 English

Following the submission of the first assessment task for Year 7 English, we will be reorganising classes as of Term 2 to better support student outcomes based on their current capabilities.

Year 7 Comic-con

The next assessment will be a Comic-con display and persuasive speech. Basically, students will create a speech and display persuading patrons that their hero or villain is the best. Comic-con will be held in Week 6 of Term 2. Over the holiday break, your student may like to start working on their display materials or costumes. We will work on the speeches in class in Term 2.

Assessment submission

This a reminder to all students, that you are responsible for submitting assessments on or before the due date. Assessment should be Turned In on the relevant Google classroom task, or handed in as a hard copy. Please obtain an Appendix A form from the Head Teacher if you have been ill on the due date. School excursions or events are not a valid excuse for non-submission of assessment.

Year 8 English Blue

This term we studied a unit called ‘Passport to Asia’. Our class travelled to China, Vietnam and Japan while looking at our Indigenous First Nations history. We have passport stamps to prove it! Our class has been immersed in these cultures through traditional tales, modern fiction, poetry, music, art, craft and food. The students have thoroughly engaged with comparisons of First Nations and Asian cultures’ Dreamtime and Creation stories and moral tales informing the writing of their very own Children’s Storybook.

We had a lot of fun immersing ourselves in variations of different festivals and ceremonies involving green tea (cordial), mooncakes (mochis), lantern lighting (battery tealights), and making paper cranes and shadow puppet dragons – all while listening to some beautiful traditional music from these countries. We look forward to showcasing the students’ storybooks in the Library next term.

Happy Easter

The English faculty would like to wish all students, parents and caregivers a Happy Easter. We hope you get to spend some quality time with your loved ones over the holiday break.
