Library News

Mrs Heather Vassila

Please don’t forget that all students in K – 4 come to the library every Monday for their borrowing and returning. This means all siblings are coming to the library on the same day.

Year 5 come to the library on odd weeks (W1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11)

Year 6 come to the library on even weeks (2, 4, 6, 8, 10)

All Stage 3 students, though, are welcome to borrow and return any day or week, regardless of their lesson week.

The library is also opened every 2nd half lunchtime, Monday to Friday, for the students to borrow or return their books.

In Week 11, students will be able to borrow extra books for the holidays if they do not have any overdue library books.

2023 Premier's Reading Challenge

All children in K-6 are given the opportunity to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Books for the challenge do not need to only come from our school library. They can be books from other libraries, home, the classroom, bookstores.  All books will count.

Also, children can read 15 x PRC books from the one series, or 10 x choice books from a series if it is not in the PRC.

Children may add to their list any books they have read since the end of last year and over the summer holidays.

K-2 Challenge

To complete the challenge students in K-2 must read or have read to them 30 x PRC books. 20 books must be PRC books and 10 books can be ‘choice books’, these are any books not necessarily in the challenge.

The K-2 teachers will read and monitor the books for the K-2 children and then I will enter their reading record, so that all students in K-2 will receive a certificate at the end of the year.

3-6 Challenge

Congratulations to the 3-6 children who have already completed their PRC online list for 2023.

3-6 children can read and enter their books immediately on the PRC site. This is an electronic record of the 20 books they read.

There are 2 ways to enter the PRC Site.

  1. Google – ‘Premier’s Reading Challenge’ and be directed to the site.
  2. Log in to your student portal and select either the ‘My School Library’ or ‘PRC’ icon to be directed to the site.

Once on the site students need to

  1. Check they are logged on.
  2. Select ‘Student Reading Records’ from the left-hand side.

During their library lessons I have been showing all 3-6 classes how to log on to the PRC site and enter books and I will continue to do this in coming weeks.

Completion of the Challenge

Electronic records close in August and students will receive their official certificate from the Premier at the end of Term 4.

If you or your child would like to know more about the Premier’s Reading Challenge, you can log onto:  https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html  or come to the library and speak to me – Monday or Tuesday.

Happy Reading
