INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

YEAR 5/6 NEWS

SAILING

Our 5/6 students have been fortunate to have so many wonderful opportunities this term within the school and outside. 28 of students participated in a 2week sailing program, where they went from being novice to being able to sail 2 different types of boats independently. This program was fabulous to watch as student put out school values into actions, especially being a team and being involved. Students work in teams, used excellent communication skills to successfully navigate their boats around the lake. By being actively involved they were able to master new skills by listening to the instructors, watching demonstrations and then trailing their new learning.  It was fabulous to see them making the most of our local community and having fun on the lake.

ROBOTICS

The past few weeks we have been exploring our create and design STEM unit. This has given students the opportunity to investigate the world of robots, within our classroom. To expand on their knowledge, we thought "What better way than to design and make a robot?".

During our incursion students were captivated as they incorporate the newest generation of motors, sensors and software by programming their commands directly into the intelligent brick, testing their capabilities by moving an object with a robotic claw, building a robot that draws, or creating a mousetrap. Students evaluated ideas and designed solutions against the criteria. They developed and expanded design ideas and communicate these with others. It was wonderful to see their joy for learning and robotics come to life.

YEAR 3/4 NEWS

What a busy few weeks of learning we have had! Congratulations to all the Year 3’s for completing NAPLAN. We are so proud of all your efforts in every subject area. All students were respectful of others during this time, demonstrating the school value of Being A Team. This past fortnight we have been discovering robots and their features, integrating them with our unit on 2D and 3D shapes. We have created shape robots, written stories about robots and even created our own robot based board game. Our robotics incursion was a hit! Students loved coding a Ferris Wheel out of Lego and motors whilst following instructions on how to code and make it move. What a fun and eventful week!
