Cultural visit

In geography stage 4 are learning about people and places. Gerald Power came to our school and told his story to a very interested audience. He spoke about his culture and important people in his community. He is a proud Juru man and grew up near the water. His favourite food is a Bowen Mango.

He talked about Orange being a resettlement area and how he came to live here some ago years now. Gerald shared moments from his school years and how his grandmother kept him on track as he grew up. In his quiet and gentle manner he spoke to the students about respect for the people who care for them.

Harvest

Students and staff welcomed a glorious autumn day for the 2022 harvest. The crop was a little smaller this year due to environmental conditions, we intend to produce a Tempranillo Rose with our partners, Phillip Shaw winery.

Staff as always did a great job helping our enthusiastic students along with some parents and carers. We were also supported by our vineyard partners Orange High School. We all enjoyed a sausage sizzle and entertainment provided by our very own Mr Wong-See on guitar and Mrs Lloyd on vocals. Thank you to all involved for your continued support.

Walk for Autism

On Friday 1st April, our school hosted move-a-thon to raise money for Autism Australia.

The Anson All Star Team challenged themselves to each walk 10,000 steps a day for 8 days while raising much needed funds to support people living with Autism.

Our school community walked, rolled and danced around the school oval wearing green. They ended the afternoon with a dance party and three cheers for the team.

The Anson All Stars team raised an outstanding $4453.

Vegetable Week - Healthy Kids Association

What a Big Vegie Crunch!

On Thursday 31 March at 10am, our school participated in The Big Vegie Crunch as part of Vegetable Week. Thank you for packing vegetables for your child/ren to crunch on for the event.  We joined around 450 other schools across NSW trying to break the record for the most children eating vegetables simultaneously.  The final numbers are still being tallied but it looks like close to 100,000 students crunched together and a further 5,000 students crunched over Vegetable Week.

That was a lot of vegetable eating! Keep practicing at home by eating more veg every day and we can try again next year.  Need ideas to help your family eat more vegies? Then check out the Up the Veg at Home resource.

ANZAC Day

I was so proud to walk with our school leaders, students, staff, ex-students and families to represent our school at the community ANZAC Day march. We had a wonderful turnout of more than 50 people and the commemoration was one of the biggest the city has seen.

Thank you to Ruby, Alex and Nathaniel who laid the wreath on behalf of our school.

Returning to school on the first day of Term 2, we held our school commemorative ceremony. Our primary and secondary school leaders officiated in rainy weather. Thank you to our community and family members who attended, including members of the Orange Ex-services. Special thanks to Mr Derek Johns who gives his time to play the bugle each year at our service.

It was wonderful to have Mr and Mrs Peck join us for the service and morning tea. Mr Don Peck was our Pipe Major for many years and we are so grateful to him for his service to our school. Guests enjoyed homemade ANZAC biscuits made by our School Learning Support Officers.
