Library

As the Library comes to life with students before school each morning it’s pleasing to reflect on our vision of ‘Library as Learning Commons’.  At this time students come to the Library to catch up with homework, engage with friends and get settled for the day ahead. The central position of the Library makes it easily accessible and the flexible layout contributes to a comfortable working environment.

Increasingly, learning resources have become digital. In many ways, this is an advantage as students and staff have the option of physical books or online access to a broad range of resources via MazCom and the Library Homepage.  Students regularly take time out in the Reading Area to escape into a story.

During the past two years of learning-from-home, our well-established digital library resources provided continued access to learning and complemented the Mazenod learning systems via MazCom, Hapara Dashboard and Edrolo. Our policy of continually evolving our Library service to match changes in technology ensured we were ready to switch over to remote learning along with the rest of the college network without delay.  During that time students became familiar with the SORA digital library and have borrowed over 700 resources this year in addition to their regular physical reading loans.

The Library’s anywhere/anytime digital format provides access to research guides and databases, curated resources, newspapers and tools to support learning excellence. It now goes without saying that a physical space no longer defines the school library.

This year access to book listed textbooks was revolutionised with the introduction of the Campion MyConnect platform. Our partnership with Campion Education facilitates access to digital textbook content from publishers and fits well with the personal student laptop program.

We are fortunate at Mazenod College to have a functionally designed library and qualified staff who are actively involved in learning and teaching and other aspects of the college community. The Library is well supported by leaners and leaders alike, a positive relationship that benefits us all.
