The Student Action Team is a student group that aims to develop Student Voice and Agency (or having a say in making decisions that affect them, or those around them) and operates with a strong sense of social justice.  At St Joseph’s, we believe that kids CAN make a difference!  Our SAC students will meet each fortnight, on Tuesday afternoons, to discuss what they might be interested in supporting; for fundraising or for taking action, to make things happen in our school, local community, or even making a small difference nationally or even overseas.

Last term we discovered that we can make a difference to children as far away as Western Africa, just by thinking about the brands of chocolate we choose to buy! We had an excursion to three of the largest local supermarkets to research the brands of chocolate that were fair-trade and therefore, slavery-free.  We then set about teaching the rest of the students and teachers what we had learnt, so that they could be better informed of the importance of supporting and buying only Fair Trade Chocolate.

For the full information of what we learned and shared, take a look at this slideshow, that our SAC students presented to their classes on SLAVERY-FREE CHOCOLATE.
