Religious Dimension

My 3 year old Granddaughter and I were driving to Melbourne last week when out of the blue she asked me who God was? “Where does God live Nana?” she asked. "What does he look like?" "Can we go and visit him?" I could sense her trying to work it out.

I came across this Prayer from a child and thought I’d share it with you.

Prayer from a child

Dear God,

I know you listen to a lot of prayers and this can make you very busy.

But I want to talk to you about something very important.

GOD. Go on, tell me. I’m listening very carefully.

I want to thank you for creating such a big world. When I think of all the people who live in it, any size smaller would have been too crowded.

I think you are very clever for thinking ahead.

GOD: Yes, the size is good. I could have created a bigger planet, but then people would have found it hard to meet up with each other. The distances would have been too big. I like a cosy planet.

Sometimes when my parents or teachers remind me to talk to you often, (they call it 'prayer'!) I don't know what to say to you. If you were more interested in computer games, in Play stations or things that interest me, maybe I would talk to you more often.

GOD: I am glad your mother and father and teachers take me seriously. I gave them a job to do, and they are doing it very well. Of course I am interested in everything you do! I am even more interested in how you are growing up and the choices you are making. I hope you will never forget me because I think of you all the time.

By the way Lord, what are your interests?

GOD: You probably won't believe me if I told you. But I will anyway. My greatest interest is called love. I love you very much. Will that do for now

I like being with my family most of the time. I feel great when I experience their love for me. Sometimes there are fights and I feel very sad when this happens.

I find I can talk to you then... heaps!

GOD: And when this happens, my child, I am listening to you very carefully. I know what your heart is feeling and I give you the strength to keep on going, to say 'sorry' or to say 'I forgive you'. Just remember, you are not alone.

It's just that I am very quiet when I listen.

God, I know you havbeen asked this all the time blotof people. But, could you look out for me? Could you keep me safe so that I don't get hurt?

I would really appreciate it if you could

GOD: Sure, my child. No sweat. You can count on me. What are friends for? And don't forget. There are no queues if you want to pray to me ... anytime ... anywhere.

Love God.

Jenny Young.
