Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

EDSC students have now read 1,948 books in the Challenge this year! Congratulations to the 172 readers who have contributed to this impressive number.

Well done to Annabelle W of 7H, Hazel C of 8C, and Cady Y of 8I who have been added to our list of students who have read 15 books this year. All students who read 15 or more books will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Congratulations to Salma G of 8L who won a $10 canteen voucher in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering their books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

Well done also to our EDSC staff who are reading alongside our students. We look forward to crowning the Most Well Read EDSC Staff Member later this year.

This year we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from January 31 to September 2.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and the latest leaderboard are on our EDSC VPRC webpage.

Reading Challenge Term 2 Prizes Announced

Librarians have had the very difficult task of awarding our mid-year Reading Challenge prizes.

Many students have shown dedication to the Challenge by reading a wide variety of books and entering them into our Reading Challenge Google Form. Some students have also taken the extra step of writing book reviews, and we’ve loved reading them all.

Congratulations to the following winners of our Term 2 $20 Kmart vouchers:

  • Best book review – Fiona H of 8I
  • Random draw for anyone with more than 5 books – Keira M of 7C and Stephanie L of 9C
  • Librarian’s choice for effort – Rhylan T of 7L and Ryan W of 9L

Well done also to the many students who came close to winning a prize. We’ll be giving away more $20 Kmart vouchers after the Challenge finishes on Friday 2 September, as well as more canteen vouchers in our fortnightly random draws for anyone who has entered a book.

Prizes will be announced in Term 4 for:

  • Best Book Reviews
  • Top reader (most pages read overall)
  • Top EAL readers (most pages read overall)
  • Random draws for anyone who completes the Challenge
  • Book Week CBCA reader (random draw: read at least two CBCA '2022 Book of the Year' shortlisted books)

Student Library Book Requests

Thank you to all students who have requested books they would like to read as part of EDSC Library’s Book Orders program this year.

Each month, we receive 25 to 40 student orders for a fantastic variety of fiction and non-fiction books and graphic novels, and are able to buy most of the books requested.

Our Book Orders program means that if the Library doesn’t have a book that a student would like to read, we will buy it for the Library, as long as the book is available, is not too expensive, and is appropriate for our collection.

Our Book Orders program ensures that our Library collection is responsive to students’ reading needs and preferences.

To order a book, students just need to fill out the simple ‘Order a Library Book’ form on our Library website

The Library places book orders once a month, and will email the requesting student when the new book arrives so that they can be the first person to borrow it.
