CBCA Shadow Judging panel

This year, we have been selected for the CBCA Sun Project. Our student panel will be reading and discussing 6 titles from the Older and Younger Readers shortlists, sharing a creative response with the CBCA Judges and voting for their winners. The Shadowers’ Choice Awards will be announced and celebrated at a brand-new event at the end of Book Week 2022 on August 26.

This is a fantastic opportunity for young readers to have their opinions and responses heard. Thanks to the panel members who have signed up already and are busily reading through the shortlist. Any other interested students can contact us at vbclibrary@viewbank.vic.edu.au.

We are also running a Preview Book Club this year. Club members have the chance to read Advanced Reading Copies, or newly published books. Readers are given 6-8 weeks to read a selected book, and asked to write a 100-200 word review. We will be organising regular meetings so members can share what they have been reading. To join, students can contact us at vbclibrary@viewbank.vic.edu.au or @VBCLibrary on MS Teams.

Book recommendations

Every week we select a Book of the Week to promote in the library and on our webpage. Here is a selection from this year – they include staff and student picks – more student suggestions are always welcome!

We prioritise student requests when buying new books for the library and have had many Sci-Fi requests this year – these have been added to our Science Fiction collection and can be found on our Sci-Fi reading list

Library displays

On 17 May the school celebrated Idahobit day – the library looked fantastic with rainbow decorations all week – a big thank you to the Lunchtime Activities team for organising the decorations, and to the students who helped decorate the space.

Our library doors are also looking bright and welcoming thanks to some of our library volunteers who have decorated them using Posca pens!

This week we will celebrated National Reconciliation Week, with some new resources on display and a colouring display in the library windows.
