Parent Presentation - Melinda Tankard Reist – 6:00pm Monday 30 May, Champagnat Centre

Melinda Tankard Reist (www.melindatankardreist.com) is an author, speaker, media commentator, blogger and advocate for young people. She is best known for her work addressing sexualisation, objectification, harms of pornography, sexual exploitation, trafficking and violence against women.

Drawing from current global literature on the subject, as well as the experiences of young people themselves, Melinda will explore with us how the proliferation of sexualized images and messages contributes to a distorted view of bodies, relationships and sexuality in young people, hampering their healthy physical emotional and social development.

Melinda will be presenting to all student groups from Year 7-12, speaking on age-specific issues that impact our youth. Her talks will also support the work being undertaken in this terms ASH program, particularly for Years 9 and 10 who are working on topics around decision making and respectful relationships.

Uniform Checks

Pastoral leaders have been doing regular uniform checks with students as a regular occurrence. The next uniform check is next week during pastoral and house meeting time. All items of uniform and grooming are looked at with the students including formal hats. Pastoral leaders have laundry markers available for students to write their name on items when needed. If long grey socks need replacing, student admin has a supply which can be purchased using a monitor card, saving time of visiting the uniform shop itself.

Students are continually reminded at assemblies and in meetings with pastoral leaders of the importance of presenting well. Ultimately, it is the students who gain the benefit of belonging to a school that is seen in a positive light by the way students present themselves well, particularly when travelling to and from school.

Year 12 ASH – RAAP Program Presentation

Today in their ASH lesson Year 12 were given a lesson on driver education by the Queensland Fire Service representatives, taking our students through the Road Attitude and Action Planning (RAAP) program. With data showing a significant above-average increase in road fatalities and injuries for 2021 in the 17 -25 years age group, this group continues to be overrepresented in the road fatality statistics.

Lessons on positive driver attitudes is a message to be reinforced continually for our young drivers.
