Visual Art News

Mrs Christine Larsen

Art Club students are adding the finishing touches to a mural that they have been developing for the entrance to the Film and Television department. We look forward to seeing the mural installed in the coming weeks.

In Week 4, the Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts in Practice students braved the rain and took part in an excursion, firstly to Studio Lamb, a model-making business in Morningside that specialises in making architectural,  mining, marketing and engineering models for clients worldwide. Callum Lamb, the director of the company shared numerous tricks of the trade which will be useful for the Year 12 students who are involved in designing and constructing their own models of a recreational space of their choice, including a basketball complex, a pump track and a Japanese garden. Following this, the students participated in a walking tour of West End and South Brisbane to view the urban and street art to provide inspiration to the Year 11 students who are currently designing a mural for a wall near the well-being centre.

We congratulate Ryan Kucsak in Year 11 who is the Artwork of the Month recipient for May for his three-dimensional skull that has been meticulously made from cardboard as part of his practical folio for the unit “Art as Lens”.

Entries for ASHCam close on Monday 30 May, with winners being announced at the opening of the Tower Art Show (a ticketed event) on Friday 3 June. See further information on how to enter in the “College Events” section of this publication.
