The Construction Immersion program at Marist College Ashgrove provides a wide range of experience and opportunities for students whose future careers will be in the construction industry. The students complete a Certificate I in Construction (CPC10120 Qualification) which is a two-year practical and theoretical course that requires students to become competent in skills necessary for entry-level building and construction trades. Throughout the two years of the course, the students are exposed to a number of trades that enhance their employability skills in all fields of Construction. Some of these trades are carpentry, electrical, plumbing, bricklaying, paving, plastering, painting and tiling.
The Year 11 Construction Immersion Days are conducted every second Friday of the term. Under the guidance of Mr Peter McIntosh, the team of students are currently working on an outdoor entertainment area in one of the Moola Road Boarding houses. Progress reports have been regularly posted in the College Newsletter publication. As part of that project, the students are preparing an area to be Paved which will be sheltered under a skillion roof. Paving is one of the essential skills of Landscape Architecture and as such, needs to be done correctly to ensure the longevity of this outdoor space. The inclement weather of last week did not stop the class learning the art and practising this skill undercover in the Trade Training Centre. As you can see in the images, this state-of-the-art Centre has a large space which allows many activities to be run all year round. The skills and knowledge that the boys learned during this Paving Training Day will be invaluable when applied to the outdoor entertainment area.
Paving is an ideal activity that covers all aspects of their Certificate I Construction Certificate. These are;
