Secondary Community News

LOWER SECONDARY

The year 7/8’s have had a great start to the term! We started off this busy term by welcoming some new students to our classes, who are all fitting in wonderfully. In the second week the 7/8’s attended their first travel education session this year, the students successfully caught public transport to Melbourne Zoo and enjoyed a day of seeing all the amazing animals there before catching the train back to school.

UPPER SECONDARY

The 9/10s have had a very busy start to the term indeed with the launch of the new café HUNGRY JACKSON.

The teams:

PRODUCTION- 9/10A

FINANCE-9/10B

MARKETING- 9/10C

SERVICE-9/10D

After a whole term of preparation, the 9/10s are so excited that their vision has finally come to life. We have been discussing in our classes how there is always room for improvement. Each week, we will meet and complete a PMI as a group to reflect and focus on how we can continue to become an even better café. We are looking forward to going to Queen Victoria Market this week to have a look at some fresh produce and have a look at how different businesses and food stalls are run.

ASDAN

What’s Happening In ASDAN This Term?

It has been lovely to see the ASDAN students so excited about returning to school. As a part of our Work Awareness module, we will be learning about Health and Safety this term. We are learning to identify hazards and unsafe situations in the learning area, home, online, community and workplace. This week we began learning about safety equipment, signs and what to do in an emergency.

In the community, we continue to practice reading signs for information. During shopping excursions, students will be participating in journey planning, mapping and money activities. We will continue to practise using the self service register and check and compare prices of similar items.

We are looking forward to recommencing work experience at Sunshine Hospital, Mambourin Enterprises and Westvale Community Gardens. Along with Jo, a team of students will also be developing a school based gardening program.

Please stay tuned for more news and photos coming soon.

Have a wonderful term everyone!

All three ASDAN classes have been working at Westvale Community Centre this term. We have planted, watered, weeded and taken home lots of produce that we have harvested. We even have a scarecrow to keep the birds away from one of our garden beds. Keep up the good work ASDAN.
