A message from Tami-Jo

I hope everyone had the opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day last week and that it was a wonderful celebration.

It has been such a busy beginning to Term 2. The students settled very quickly after the holidays, and this enabled the teachers to get stuck right into a robust teaching program. The students were happy on their return and embraced the routines that had been established the term before.

NAPLAN was administered this week in years 3, 5 and 7. This takes a lot of organisation. Practice tests were implemented, the IT department worked to ensure our equipment was ready and the staff worked to build the confidence of the students. Whilst this gives us a picture of student achievement, it is a snapshot of performance on one day of the year. Our staff collate numerous pieces of evidence throughout the year to make their teacher judgments for reports at the end of the semester.

We have many excursions being planned and it is just so exciting to see everything slowly returning to normal. Year 7 camp is coming up this month and the students and teachers alike are very keen for this opportunity. They are heading to Narmbool, an educational and sustainable camp facility affiliated with Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. We will inform you of other camping experiences for Years 3-6 later in the year.

We have had a new shade sail installed to provide more cover for the students and are working with a variety of providers to make plans for further concreting around the school and to develop more play spaces.

We still must continue Rapid Antigen Testing twice/ week at this stage and this helps to keep everyone safe. There are staff and students who are immunocompromised, and it is important that we all do our part to keep all of us as safe as possible.

We wanted to celebrate all those volunteers who have been coming to help in the classrooms this term. Your time and effort support both our students and teachers. The students enjoy having members of the community in their classroom and it is an opportunity for us to forge strong relationships together. Please see their names listed in the newsletter and thank them if you see them. I hope that there are others who would like to volunteer their time to the classes, please contact your classroom teacher if this is the case.

Please put the following dates in your calendar:

School Photos: Friday 20th May and Monday 23rd May

Year 7 Camp: Monday 23rd May- Wednesday 25th May

Remember our doors are always open. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
