Year 12 English "Station Eleven" Author Incursion

In the lead-up to their BIG English SAC based on their first English novel study of Year 12, the entire Year 12 cohort were given the incredible opportunity to be part of a livestream Q&A with Emily St. John Mandel, the author of the novel ’Station Eleven’, which just happens to be the novel students have been studying and analysing for the majority of Term 1. Video calling in, all the way from New York City, Mandel provided the cohort with some incredible insights into the construction and intentions of her tremendous novel, giving students an enriched understanding that no doubt aided them as they undertook their SAC for this task later that very day.

This incursion was a truly wonderful experience for our Year 12 cohort and they were extremely grateful for such a unique and relevant opportunity to enhance their learning experience!

Advanced Science - Year 10 Students

It is my pleasure to show case some of the activities that Year 10 students have completed this Term in the advanced science class under the leadership of Ms Navkirat Kaur. During the past two years lockdowns and COVID restrictions created challenges to the experimental delivery of the science program.  The new elective science program allows students to explore topics in greater depth and allows for them to further develop their critical thinking, problem solving and creative skills and pave the way for their VCE transition. In this term Ms Kaur, has explored topics in Biology and Physics and involved students in creating and constructing a model that highlights a feature of interest form the topics.

Included below are some comments from students and relevant photos:

“I was able to go into further depth on topics that we covered in class and were available create and design our own project”- Khushteg.

“I was able to experience what VCE biology will be like to help me decide the kind of subjects I would like to take next year.” – Taylah.

“I was able to discover further depth in topics that I wasn’t clear on and with additional experiments, the topic just became significantly easier to understand”-Milit.

“It provided way more insight into the subject this year. The lessons have an abundance of hands-on learning and were all very practical which were a plus.” – Hang.

“I was quite engaged in Advanced Science as it gave me an opportunity to build up on my knowledge, so that I can use it in VCE. We did fun projects to further solidify our learning and look at the content we are learning about in a more practical and applicable way”

- Anagha.
