Head of Senior Years – Farewell

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11.

Well, here we are, it is time for me to say farewell to the GNLC community and all that it has come to stand for. It has been my honour to serve as a leader in this community since I walked into the building in October 2013 – my sole job, for the first few months, was to write all of the curriculum side of the documentation that was required by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), in order for GNLC to be granted permission to have a Senior School.  That required an enormous amount of writing, but, with God’s help and provision, we got there.

Fast forward to April 2022. God called me to serve at Good News and now he has called me away. I have no idea what the next adventure is going to be, but I am sure that He will use my God given gifts to serve others, wherever that might be.

The Year 12 Captains interviewed me this morning for assembly and asked me what my three favourite memories are of GNLC - that was easy:

  • Speaking with Simon Hughes, the then Principal, about how he thought I could help Good News Lutheran College, and I knew from that moment, that this was where I was meant to be

  • Starting the musical tradition and all of the different shows we have created together. The productions provided great relationship building opportunities and they also provided us the chance to showcase the gifts and talents of the students and staff, not just on stage but also behind the scenes. For me I was also blessed beyond measure to have worked with my son, Mr Callum Taylor, on all of those productions.

  • Walking into the completed Senior Years building for the very first time. Wow! We had come such a long way so quickly since that first conversation with Simon. We were and are richly blessed by the building, and I am personally blessed by the people who fill it every day, learning and growing together.

It has been my pleasure to share my skills and passions with the GNLC community. Working in schools can be academically, emotionally and socially challenging but it is also so incredibly rewarding on so many levels. As a community, we have experienced the whole set of births, deaths and marriages, and have matured through all of those events. We are not only proud of our present students but also of our alumni, who are out studying and working in the world and are achieving amazing things.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of the GNLC journey.

May God continue to richly bless Good News Lutheran College.
