Head of Middle Years

Mr Steven Tkaczuk

Thank you to all our families in Middle Years for making our year to date focused, supportive, and successful for positive student outcomes and achievements. Students have been immersed in varying units of work and are beginning to showcase some of their knowledge through various forms of assessment and work samples.

In preparation for the upcoming NAPLAN testing, which will begin in Week 4 of Term 2, students in Years 7 and 9 completed an online NAPLAN testing session. The session was designed to assess the readiness of student iPads, to ensure all the required software was functioning correctly, and identify any issues with ACARA’s testing platform. More importantly, it was also an opportunity for students to familiarise / re-familiarise themselves with the NAPLAN style of testing. If your child was absent or if they would like further familiarisation, you are welcome to visit ACARA NAPLAN Online public demonstration site

Parent/ Teacher Interviews are just around the corner. I would encourage you to take the time to meet with your child’s subject teacher as well as Pastoral Care teacher to better understand how your child is working within the subject. Please refer to the information being sent to all families very soon for booking instructions. Of course, if for some reason you cannot attend the planned sessions, you are most welcome to contact your child’s teachers via SEQTA Direct Message (DM) to organise another time. Please see Deputy Principal article for times and dates.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and joyous Easter break as we celebrate the important Christian time of Easter and Christ’s resurrection and triumph. Please stay safe.

Student Learning - Art

Year 7 students have been exploring the work of artist Wayne Thiebaud, who painted images of desserts, in their Visual Arts class.  Earlier in the term students designed their own 2D images of cakes with a slice missing, and now they are creating the missing slice in 3D form.  Students experimented with a range of materials and techniques to produce the perfect textures.

Parenting Tips

As parents and guardians, you can sometimes feel overwhelmed and like a ‘broken record’ encouraging your child to stay on top of tasks, plan themselves appropriately and remain focused on tasks. Sound organisational techniques can often make the difference between maintaining effective work habits, feeling success, and completing tasks on or before due dates. This short article provides some ‘student friendly’ advice on how they can manage their time and organise themselves for upcoming tasks and activities. https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/focused.html
