On Monday, the Term Two LWLW representatives were presented with their badges. It was so lovely to see some parents at Assembly and we hope to invite parents on a more regular basis from now on. ANZAC Day 2022

It was fantastic to see so many students and parents at the ANZAC Day March.

Kinder 2023 Enrolments

Enrolments Interviews are well underway for Kinder 2023. If you are a current family and have a child ready for school in 2023 please contact the office. You will need to collect an enrolment pack and book your enrolment interview. Please do this ASAP so we can start to work out numbers.

Book Fair

The first St Xavier’s Book Fair of 2022 is coming! We are excited to announce that the Book Fair will run from Friday 13th of May until Wednesday 18th of May. The Book Fair will operate from 8:30am until 3:30pm. This year parents will be able to come to the Book Fair and purchase some wonderful new books.

Students will bring home an invitation and possibly a “wish list” once they have viewed the Book Fair with their class. This might give you an idea of the books they’re interested in purchasing. I understand that you may not want to purchase all of the items that your child has listed so you might like to highlight or tick those items that you would like to buy. If you are unable to visit our Book Fair, purchases can be made in other ways. You may like to simply send cash in with your children. You can send a specific amount of cash if you know exactly what you would like them to purchase. Alternatively you might like to send them with a lump sum and I will be able to help them with their purchasing decisions.

CHROMEBOOK CHARGERS

We seem to have a lot of missing chromebook chargers. If you have one at home from your child's chromebook please send back to school, they are quite expensive to replace.

St Xavier’s Gunnedah Uniform Policy

Introduction

It has been a tradition at St Xavier’s, Gunnedah since its foundation that students are to be well presented and wear a common uniform.

Given the tradition and being considerate of the times and circumstances we live in, the following Uniform Policy has been instituted.

Why a Uniform Policy?

There are several reasons apart from tradition, why such a policy should be instituted and adhered to.

1. The wearing of a uniform does not distinguish between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ – all the students are seen as equal in regards to uniform.

2. A common uniform provides a sense of identity and belonging to the community of St Xavier’s School.

3. Student’s personal presentation is a visible sign of pride in themselves and their school.

4. Being well groomed and in uniform contributes to the development of a common spirit.

5. To wear a uniform and comply with grooming regulations requires self-discipline, personal responsibility and thinking beyond self to others. We can let others and ourselves down when we do not care.

6. Well-presented students are a good advertisement for the school within the local community.

7. There are economical and practical advantages for parents.

It is for these reasons that this policy has been introduced and will be enforced by all the members of Staff.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

At St Xavier’s we are proud of our school uniform. All children are required to wear the following:

Sports Uniform for Boys and Girls Navy embroidered logo shorts Embroidered logo shirt Microfibre embroidered tracksuit SPORTS SOCKS-Must be plain white and cover the ankles. Students with incorrect socks will be asked to attend the Office and change their socks.
School Hats with St Xavier’s logo must be worn all year round. Please label all clothing, especially hats.
Jewellery- Only the following items are allowed: A watch A signet ring One single thread silver or gold bangle One set of silver or gold sleepers or studs in the ears only. No nose or eyebrow earrings are to be worn at school. Earrings with coloured stones or shapes are not to be worn. Students will be asked to remove incorrect jewellery and place it in a snap lock bag to take home.
Hair Hair should be neat and tidy at all times and if long must be tied back using maroon, black, navy or white bands or ribbons. Students wearing incorrect bands or ribbons will be asked to attend the Office for a replacement. Extreme haircuts and mullet type hair cuts are not acceptable and best saved for holidays.
No makeup or coloured fingernail polish is to be worn at any time. Nail polish remover is available in the Office and students will be asked to remove incorrect polish.
Shoes: School shoes must be completely black school shoes, boots or joggers. Skate styled shoes are not acceptable footwear.

Amendments to the Policy

Amendments may be made to the policy after consultation with the School’s Advisory Council. Any amendments to this policy would be communicated by the re-issue of the policy in its amended form.

Breaches of the Policy

There are from time to time situations whereby students are unable to wear the correct uniform for a short period. Where these situations are unavoidable the student is to have a note from parents/carers explaining why the uniform is not worn and for how long they wish to seek an exemption. Permission will only be granted for no more than a couple of days. If there are significant difficulties in relation to the uniform then the Principal will need to be contacted.

Conclusion

The Policy is designed to establish attitudes of equality, personal responsibility and self discipline, good grooming habits, personal and communal pride and a sense of school spirit. The support of the full school community is required if we are to achieve these goals.
