RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2

 Religious Education

Congratulations to the students that received the very special Sacrament of Reconciliation last Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Thanks again to staff and families for supporting our children in their preparation and celebrations.

Last week we received a letter of thanks from Colac Conference of St Vincent De Paul. Many families in our local area were grateful for our generous donations to the 2021 Christmas Appeal. St Vinnies

expressed their gratitude for the donations they kindly received from the Sacred Heart School Community. We are very proud of our school leaders and staff who passionately work hard to help the less fortunate in our community.

This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. Palm Sunday, the feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, marks the day Jesus Christ celebrated his final passover with his disciples (The Last Supper). As christians, we believe that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples' on the night of the Last Supper. For Jesus, it was the display of His humility and His servanthood.

Good Friday is the day that Jesus was crucified and died on the cross. This day that is outwardly dark and dismal actually commemorates Christ's greatest gift to us: Good Friday is good because it opens the possibility that we might live forever.

Easter Sunday marks the day of Christ’s resurrection from the dead- ‘Christ has risen’. It reminds us that Jesus is alive and in our midst and he welcomes us in a new life with him.

On Good Friday at 11:00am, Colac church groups and other organisations will gather at the Colac Botanical Gardens, near the playground for the annual christian event of the ‘Way of the Cross’. This tradition was first organised in 1979 by the then Principal  Trinity College, Br Ron Stewart. We invite the Sacred Heart School Community to join us in prayer and reflection walking our way through the Stations of the Cross. This most holy day is a time we remember the story of Jesus’ suffering and  death on Good Friday.
