Principal's Update

Term 1 has certainly presented some challenges, but at the same time has been a positive step to returning Lowanna to where it was pre Covid. I would like to thank students, parents and carers for the way that they have come to terms with the ever-changing landscape in Victoria. We hope that Term 2 will allow us to continue to build on the positive steps taken in this term. Term 2 is set to be a busy one with Naplan scheduled for our Year 7 & 9 students, and the Attitudes to School Survey for all students across the College.

It has been tremendous to see extra-curricular activities returning. Interschool Sport, musical soirees, tech school excursions, and camps certainly add to the complete school experience for our students. Our annual Athletics sports were held last week at Joe Carmody Reserve, and despite the early poor weather, the day cleared and allowed students to display their skill and efforts on the track. There were plenty of highlights during the day, records were broken, and it was great to see students and staff interacting in a different setting.

I would like to encourage all students to be responsible in caring for the Lowanna school environment. Much care, time and money has gone into ensuring that facilities at Lowanna are leading the way amongst schools in the area. Unfortunately, it is disappointing when we see a small number of students disrespecting these facilities and therefore affecting the outcomes of other Lowanna students. I urge all students to follow our values of Respect, Integrity, Determination, Growth and Excellence in everything they do at Lowanna.

On a personal note, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Acting Principal for the past 7 weeks. It was certainly a wonderful learning experience. It gave me an opportunity to visit a number of classes and work with students, parents and staff to continue to move Lowanna ahead. It was very pleasing to see a number of new parents nominate for School Council at the recent AGM, highlighting their willingness to continue to improve the school. Mr. Hogan is looking forward to returning to the helm at the start of Term 2. I would like to wish all Lowanna families a wonderful Easter break and thank you for your ongoing support throughout the term.
