Remembrance Day Observance

Please join us on Monday, November 11 between at 10:50am for a brief liturgy to acknowledge the fallen soldiers of World War 1.

The Flanders poppy has long been a part of Remembrance Day, the ritual that marks the Armistice of November 11, 1918.

During the First World War, red poppies were among the first plants to spring up in the devastated battlefields of northern France and Belgium. In soldiers' folklore, the vivid red of the poppy came from the blood of their comrades soaking the ground.

The sight of poppies on the battlefield at Ypres in 1915 moved Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae to write the poem In Flanders fields (see The recitation). In English literature of the nineteenth century, poppies had symbolised sleep or a state of oblivion; in the literature of the First World War a new, more powerful symbolism was attached to the poppy – the sacrifice of shed blood.

At Therese's 30th Anniversary and Art Show

Please come along to celebrate 30 years of St Therese's School.

The students will take part in activities from 9:00am with KABOOM! sports. At 12:30am, a Whole School Mass will be celebrated in the Hall with Father Joseph followed by the blessing of our new prayer garden.

At 5:00pm, all families are invited back to school to visit the Art Show and share in a family feast.

Families are asked to bring along a plate of food to contribute to the feast. It would be fantastic if the food could come from the family's country of origin.

We look forward to sharing the celebrations with you!
