Health and Physical Education

This term in Physical Education the Year Two students will be covering the fundamentals of forehand strike, dodge and gymnastics. Some of the sports covered in these topics include badminton, bat tennis, rugby, agility activities, dance and gymnastics. Within Health, students will be learning about health messages and how they relate to health decisions and behaviours.

Visual arts

This term Year 2 students will explore a range of Australian indigenous art with a focus on symbolism. Using crayons and food wash they will create a piece of work incorporating the symbols to tell a Dreamtime story.  As a year level students will be involved in creating a contemporary indigenous canvas for the school fete.

Performing arts

This term Year 2 students will learn their first solfa names and begin to use them in dictations and compositions. They will learn the placement of some notes on the music staff. Year 2 students will use a wide variety of drama games to gain confidence for performing to each other and learn to use tension in performances.

Chinese

Year 2 students are developing an understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students learn time, weather, Australian animals and are instructed to the Chinese Pinyin phonic system as well as Chinese cultural events - Moon Festival. They participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities. Revision of self-introduction, numbers and other previously learnt phrases, e.g. likes/dislikes, colours, days and dates, will be covered.
