Term 3

Drama Box

Welcome

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope the holidays were relaxing for everyone and that the children are eager to begin another exciting and action packed term.

Thank you as always

Three cheers for our brilliant parent volunteers who listen to the children read. It’s of invaluable benefit for our Year 2 children. A sign up sheet will be posted outside your child’s classroom for Term 3 reading.

Term 2 highlights

The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about History in our Inquiry Unit – ‘Past in the Present’.

The children’s News Reports proved to be a marvellous reflection of the many  'Memories From the Past' with their selection of their historical photographs, why the chose it and what it meant to them.

In their Games… To The Future! there was a varied selection of games and why they chose them. Their ideas for the future changes to the games were quite amazing. Lots of inventers of the future.

Our recent excursion to Rippon Lea House was very engaging for the children. They learnt about when the house was built, who lived there, what jobs the servants had to do and why, and how the different areas of the house were organised. We also got the bonus of viewing and participating in olden day games such as the Tug-of-War, Sack Races and Quoits.

Inquiry Unit:

This term our Inquiry Unit is the Science topic of Push and Pull. We will be looking at the way objects move depending on a variety of factors including their size and shape: a push or a pull affects how an object moves or changes shape.

English

Reading:

A major focus with reading will continue to be comprehension. Being able to read a book does not always equate to understanding what has been read.

Inferring will also be a focus for the students. Using their knowledge and searching for other clues from books to make accurate predictions about their reading will be embedded in individual, small group and whole class reading activities.

Writing:

The focus this term will be Poetry and Explanation writing.

Spelling:

Each week the children will focus on a series of letters/sound patterns and/or associated spelling rules. Grammar will also be incorporated into Word Study activities.

Speaking and Listening:

The children will continue with News Reports. Information on both the topics and dates of presentation will be sent home in Week 1.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics we will be continuing to revise number strategies, partitioning and starting to explore money. We will be looking at location and mapping. There will also be further exploration of making varied graphs and interpreting data. We will also explore shapes further looking at the transformations of flip, slide and turn.

Kind regards,

Kim Taing, Cal Young, Jess Hankinson and Dianne Fox.
