Western Sydney University Study

St Joseph’s is partnering with Dr Caroline Mills from Western Sydney University in a research project related to sensory processing in primary aged students from Kindergarten to Year 4.

Sensory processing involves the processing of information from the environment through the senses, for example, sound, vision, touch, taste, smell, and movement. Difficulties processing sensory information can result in difficulties in classroom participation and success for some children.  All K-4 students are invited to be a part of the study.

The study involves you, as a parent or carer, completing two short questionnaires about your child, which will take no longer than 45 minutes of your time. Please see the attached participant information sheet.

If you are interested in participating, return the attached consent form.  In exchange for your participation, you will receive a short summary about your child’s sensory processing.

St Joseph's School Fete

Saturday 21 September 2019. It is not long now until our school fete. Students are excited and so are staff. All families are encouraged to provide support by helping out on the day. All help is very welcome even if you only have limited time.

Farewell to Skoolbag

As previously advised, Skoolbag is no longer in use as of Monday 26 August.  Two weeks ago families received a letter regarding our new school management and student information system, Compass.

The letter contained information for parents to access Compass and included your access code.

It is imperative that all parents become familiar with the Compass Parent Portal as this will be the source of all school communication to parents and carers.

Student Absences

Compass is now used to notify parents of unexplained student absences. Please see the attached information for further information on how to notify the school of any unexplained absences.

Parents are able to advise WHOLE DAY ABSENCES ONLY through Compass.

Summer Uniform Changeover

Students change from Winter to Summer uniform on the Monday following Father’s Day. Parents may use their discretion as to which uniform their child/ren wear in the 2 weeks following the change-over should the weather be too cold or too hot.

Girl's School Uniform

Summer

Blue school pattern tunic, white above ankle length school socks,  black polishable leather shoes.

Sports

Navy shorts, school sports polo shirt with crest, school tracksuit (jacket and pants), white above ankle-length socks and predominantly white joggers with white laces.

Note: The sports jacket is only to be worn on sports days with the sports uniform. On very cold days it may also be worn with the summer or winter uniform but over the school sloppy-joe. The school sloppy-joe should be the first choice for warmth.

Boys School Uniform

Summer

Grey shorts (not cargo type), blue short-sleeved shirt with school logo, grey socks, black-polishable leather shoes.

Sports

Navy shorts, school sports polo shirt with crest, school tracksuit  (jacket and pants), white above ankle-length socks, joggers

Note: The sports jacket is only to be worn on sports days with the sports uniform. On very cold days it may also be worn with the summer or winter uniform but over the school sloppy-joe. The school sloppy-joe should be the first choice for warmth.

Girl's Summer Uniform

I am currently consulting with the P&F and a variety of parents about a possible addition to the girl's summer uniform.

As you would be aware, the girls currently have a pants option with the winter uniform but no such option for the summer uniform. This may take the form of a culotte style short with blouse/shirt. The current summer dress will remain part of the uniform.

I will be seeking wider consultation soon with parents, along with the uniform supplier, and hope to be able to make final a decision as soon as possible.

Parking

Recently, some parents have taken to parking in the park across the road from the school and church.  I remind parents that this presents a considerable risk for children walking through the park from St Joseph's and Woniora Public School.

Do not ever park in the park across from the school, it is a pedestrian area for children and adults.

A reminder also that school zones remain in place for the safety of our children and families. School zones operate on all gazetted school days, which are all days the school is open, including pupil free days.

Parking is available in parish car park. Parking is also available in surrounding streets and we ask that all parents obey traffic rules and signs.

Please be considerate of local residents as they are our neighbours and need to be able to access their driveways.

Please refer to the relevant parking offences below:
