Junior Girls Football

On Monday 21st May the Junior girls football team from Healesville High School competed in the Yarra District interschool competition in Mooroolbark. The first game was against the top side Lilydale High School’s A team and we were beaten convincingly, although our girls put up a good fight. They then came up against Lilydale High School’s B team and were victorious in a tight contest. In the final match Emerald Secondary College proved too strong for our girls and ran away with the victory in the second half. Misty Skeene in the centre was clearly our best player with her clean ball skills and pace. Issy Smith was our best goal scorer with three goals and Nikita Mullens showed excellent composure to kick a major in the second game. Skipper Tahn Innes-Mason led from the front with strong work in congestion and Caitlin Bateman-Hirst battled tirelessly all day in the ruck. The girls demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the day and can all be proud of their efforts representing Healesville High School.

YEAR 9/10 GIRLS AFL

On a rainy Monday 21st May, a pumped up team of 24 girls ready to get muddy, took to the field against Lilydale Heights and Lilydale High Schools. Lead by their captain Estelle Peterson, the team came out strong and united against Lilydale High, who defeated us last year. This was a close match, however our outstanding marking, hard ball gets and quick clearances across the field made the difference, and we were able to secure the satisfying victory by a few goals!

Full of confidence, the girls then took the field against Lilydale Heights. After going goal-for-goal for the first half, our girls focused as a team and worked extremely well together to claim the win by over 30 points.

Congratulations to all students who kicked a goal on the day – there are too many to mention all of you – however the victory was due to the outstanding teamwork and communication on the field for every match. All the girls pushed themselves to help their teammates out where required, and the encouragement towards each other throughout the day was a testament to the high level of sportsmanship that all these students have.

A thank you to Rebekah Denny and Jordyn Agnew for being the runners on the day, delivering  messages out to the players on the field.

Congratulations to all students!! Training for the Eastern Regional Finals begins next week!!

YEAR 7 BADMINTON

On Wednesday 23rd May, Healesville High School was represented by two Badminton teams in the Yarra Division Competition against other local schools. The girls team consisted of Misty Skeene, Kia Hubbard, April Hoiles, Honey Evans and Makenzee Harbinson.

The boys team included Connor Fallon, Marley Deefholts, Oscar Grenfell and Reece Smith. Both teams finished the day undefeated in their matches, with some outstanding badminton skills on display.

All students were able to play a mixture of singles and doubles matches across the day. Students were extremely happy to bring back to school 2 victory pennants, and are keen to begin training for the Eastern Region Finals in Term 3, where there will be some very fierce competition waiting for them.

Congratulations to all students on a fun and successful day of sport.
