Read Like A Girl

International Women's Day Breakfast 2021

A wonderful morning was held by all on Monday at the Read Like a Girl International Women’s Day Breakfast.  The weather behaved beautifully, and the rooftop garden was a resplendent venue under the Queensland autumn sun.

Guests were treated to a lovely breakfast made on campus by La Cucina staff and served by Years 11 and 12 Hospitality students, under the direction of Ms Donna Shepherd and Ms Shari Bartley.

Another delight was the entertainment provided by Music students, under the direction of Ms Amanda Holley.

Finally, the keynote address was from Ms Suzy Wilson, founder of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, in conversation with Helen Stower.  A key theme of Suzy’s address was the injustice faced by indigenous children in remote communities who lack access to books and reading.  Further to this, very few books have been published in their own language, presenting further barriers to literacy.  Suzy also challenged the audience to expand their own knowledge and experience of indigenous culture so that we might move toward a more united future.
