Learning with Chalk

On Friday 5th February, the Year 11 Chemistry students learned all about the mole. It is ordinarily a complex task, requiring the introduction of a number of different equations. As an introduction to the topic Chemistry, teachers used the difference between the mass of the chalk before the drawing and the mass of the chalk after. This demonstrated to the students, visually, the relationship between the mass used and the molar mass of the compound Calcium Carbonate. Allowing them to use their newfound equations to calculate the moles.
