VCE English – How to Support Your Child With Their Homework
All students of VCE English have at least one piece of weekly homework to complete, alongside their revision and summary notes. You can support your child to achieve their best this year by asking them what’s in their English homework booklet this week, and how they are going with the work. All homework is based on the learning students have been doing in the classroom, so if your child is finding the homework difficult you can help them by referring back to the notes in their English work book.
Students with the drive to excel are given regular extension work to complete at home. You can help them with this work by prompting them to tell you what additional reading or writing tasks they have completed in the last week, and what their teacher has asked them to complete. VCE English students do best when they know their set texts extremely well, so year eleven students should be re-reading ‘A View From the Bridge’ or watching performances of the play, and year twelve students should be watching Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ (perhaps even the director’s cut! Get a copy from Ms Radbourne by bringing a hard drive with at least 11GB of space) and talking with you about what it’s all about.
Year Twelve English Club
Students needing a bit of extra help with their English work are encouraged to bring their English books and their lunch to A9 on Thursdays between 11.40am and 12.10pm for support from Ms Radbourne and friends! There you can ask questions, complete practice work and get support with the things that you find challenging, all in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
VCE Maths Club
VCE maths teachers are running additional support sessions for all VCE maths students every Monday at senior lunchtime (11.30am to 12.00pm) in M7. During these sessions, students can complete additional revision or seek extra assistance for topics that they are finding challenging. Feel free to bring something to eat, your summary books and work to complete!
