OSHClub

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!
We have had so much fun over the past two weeks as we’ve continued engaging with our after-school clubs! Within these clubs our weekly goals of focus have centred around building an awareness of sportsmanship and resilience among the children. Check out some of the awesome things we’ve been up to below!
Sports Club
With all the excitement of the Australian Open, the children decided to explore tennis! With a focus on hand-eye coordination and teamwork the students practiced controlling the ball and played a rally between their teammates.
Super Science Stars Club
The children have had a bubbling-good time in science club as we have continued to explore different types of reactions. Check out what happened when we made Elephant’s Toothpaste!
Gardening Club
The children have really enjoyed exploring the new Tilley gardens. They have loved engaging in self-directed play as they water and care for the gardens and engage with nature. Recently, we used some yummy cucumber from the gardens to use in our deliciously healthy rice paper rolls!
Building Club
In building club, the children have been developing their creativity and design capacities as they work collaboratively to build some amazing Lego houses!
Based on a suggestion from Vivienne in Grade 2, the children are also currently working on a building project. Learning about the important steps of the design process, the students are working on building their own racing car using recycled materials. Last week, the children drew a picture of their design and brainstormed the types of materials they might need to build their car. We can’t wait to see the finished product in a few weeks!
If you have any of the following recycled materials, we would greatly appreciate if you could drop them off to the program to help us in building our cars:
- Bottle top lids
- Milk cartons
“My car is number 18 and I’m having fun drawing my design. My car will be a racing car”
Cooking Club
We have been implementing basic mathematical measurement concepts within real-world experiences during our cooking club sessions. Working cooperatively and building their language skills, the children have been baking some delicious chocolate muffins.
Family Tree
Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.
If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!
