New reads

The following are examples of some of the new books in the library. The library is open during the first half of lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Students are encouraged to drop in to have a look at what books are on offer and to pick up a gripping read.

Luminous- Liora has literally been ‘luminous’ since a star collided with her house when she was a young child. She has tried to stay hidden ever since. So when she was noticed by Darius, the evil warlock, everything in her life changed. This novel is full of magic and adventure and is a great read for teenagers.

Fish out of Water- Fifteen year old Finn is a swimmer and is only focussed on winning. Then one day he sees a familiar face in the crowd and his memories start to come back to haunt him, causing his life to unravel. This is a story about coming to terms with your past and learning to understand yourself.

At the End of Everything- This is a very timely and eye-opening look at human nature and human reactions when everything is at risk. Set in a juvenile detention centre, this book follows a group of teenagers who have been abandoned by the guards and they are forced to face life in a pandemic world on their own.

Only a Monster- Things were shaping up to be the best summer of Jen’s life. That was until she found out she and her family are actually monsters. They have terrifying, hidden powers and they must keep their identity a secret, or risk being slain by a group of monster hunters. This is a fast-paced and gripping story and is more suited to older teen readers.

The Other Side of Tomorrow- The story of Abbey, whose cancer has returned. This story tells the story of her journey through treatment and the need to accept that there will ‘be not tomorrow’ for her. You can’t expect a happy ending to this story, but you can expect a beautifully written take on confronting our mortality.

I Must Betray You- Inspired by real events, this is a powerful novel set amongst the Romanian revolution of 1989, where life is ruled by fear. Cristian is 17 and living in a nightmare, when he is faced with an impossible choice- become an informer or risk the lives of those he loves. This is a powerful and heart-breaking thriller written by an award-winning author of young adolescent fiction.
