Year 4 News

It’s hard to believe we only have a week of school days left of the term.

Children are well into our Inquiry Unit and enjoying the daily writing. We are focussing on conventions such as full stops, capital letters and the correct use of quotation marks. Paragraphs are also a focus, incorporating the organisation trait.

Earlier this week students completed a writing lesson – ‘See, think and wonder,” which helps them add description to their writing.

Yesterday students worked collaboratively and diligently researching features of the Amazon Rainforest. They looked at main rivers, continents, vegetation and species that call the Amazon Rainforest home.

Earlier in the week students made decisions that affected their experience in the Amazon. We are sure if you had a conversation with your child and asked them whether they chose the red berries, purple berries or none at all, that they would launch into the fun they had deciding and how it turned out for them!

During the Resilience Project this week students used the photos of themselves to explain what character strength they were displaying and what it helped them to do.

Some examples are:

“The character strength I am using is perseverance. It helped me to start again when I missed the hole in mini-golf.” By Chloe P 4B.

“The character strength I am using is bravery and persistence. It helped me to remember the dance and get back up and finish the routine when I tripped over on stage.” By Scarlett R 4A.

“The character strength I am using is kindness. It helped me to train my seeing eye dog” By Charlotte M 4C

“The character strength I am using is persistence and bravery. It helped me to learn how to do bike jumps.” By Oliver T 4D.

In Maths we are revising Place Value and focusing on Rounding numbers to the nearest, tens, hundreds and thousands. Children are using My Numeracy on Essential Assessment

The Cybersafety Project is in full swing and we have just talked with the children about pop-ups and scams. Children are well versed about avoiding ‘temptations’ that seem too good to be true such as offers of free iPads!

We celebrated some double digit birthdays too! Happy birthday to those big 10 year olds!
