Debating Training

It was great to see our Year 7 and 8 debating teams undertake a training session last week. Although due to the lockdown it was over zoom, it was a very rewarding experience for our team members. The debating trainers from the Debating Association of Victoria put our students through some training, then a practice debate against the students from St Augustine’s College. A big thank you to Mr Greenwood who assisted our students and provided some really good insight into how to construct a debate.

Chanter Champs at Primary Swimming Sports

It was a very refreshing cool change that came through for Monday’s Swimming sports.  It was a great day, though unfortunately the wider school community was not able to attend. The addition of the opening ceremony was well received and the words of encouragement from our House Captains had all athletes ready to perform their best.

The performance by our swimmers was high class with 5 records broken on the day.

Move over Mac Horton; Chanter’s own champion Macklan Dalziel set the pool on fire with 3 records out of his four swims. The first to go was Patrick Kennedy’s 50 metre freestyle record, then he shaved the 50 metre ‘fly record of Tanner Peters, and lastly it was Kennedy’s breast stroke record.  Will Whitbourn can sleep easily as his backstroke record remained intact at the end of the day.

Josh Uys has followed his older siblings into the pool and now has his own record to go with the plethora of records they have.  His 25 metre ‘fly was a great swim to just knock off the previous record set by Lachy Donchi.

Blake Johns must have been getting some lessons over the summer from his PE teaching Aunt and that definitely paid off with Blake setting a record in the 25 metre freestyle and in doing so erasing Noah Fletcher from the record books.

Perricoota not restricted by speed limit at Secondary Swim Carnival

In the secondary swimming carnival on Tuesday, Perricoota proved they were the best swimming team of the last five years by winning again.  With four wins in five years no one can dispute that claim. It was a good display from all the students in the house as they only had three age champions on the day.

It was again a cooler day, which made the sausages on sale move like hot cakes. The cooler weather had an effect on the pool with it definitely swimming slower than the day before.

Overall results had Martin, led by Lucy and Sarah just nipping at Perricoota’s heels when the relays were done.  Chanter was a clear third and Meninya were unfortunately last.   It could be a long year for Meninya, unless some of the younger students can step up in the cross country and Athletics sports.

Interschool Swimming

From both primary and secondary carnivals, our interschool teams have been selected.  Both of these events are to be held in Wagga next week. The primary on Wednesday and the secondary on Thursday. Unfortunately due to caps in numbers parents cannot attend, however we do have a bus running for both teams. The Primary team only compete in the 10 to 12yo age groups.

If any primary parents are interested in travelling on the bus to Wagga as support staff please give me a call at school - 5480 5900.
