Our Lenten Journey
As we journey through the Season of Lent, a time of preparation for the great feast of Easter we give special attention to prayer (attending to quality more so than quantity), fasting (emptying ourselves that we may be filled with the life and love of Christ) and good deeds (not to win admiration for ourselves but to help others). Though it is a time of sacrifice, Lent is a joyful season as we anticipate the resurrection of the Lord.
This reminds us again of two liturgical dimensions of our faith in Jesus. First, there is our movement through the key days of our Church and personal calendar. Our boys are currently busy engaging in the many and varied dimensions of school life, participating in our celebrations and rituals and fully embracing John 10:10 calling to 'live life to the full. At the same time boys are being challenged to look up and beyond themselves and and engage in liturgical experiences that transcends the hurts and joys of our past, the challenges of the present and our hopes for the future, to unite them in our friendship with the Trinitarian God.
It has been pleasing to see members of our community embrace our Lenten journey, be it in activities such as New Beginnings, Kindergarten or our many welcome functions. During the lead up to Good Friday boys are encouraged to remember that even through their simple deeds they are accepting the invitation to be part of the Lenten season. As we seek to enrich our living through prayer, fasting and good works, lets us actively seek to deepen our friendship with God, whose friendship allows us to fulfill our capacity to love without limit and share in God’s blessed eternal life.
New Beginnings
As our New Beginnings programme for Year 7 students comes to a conclusion it has been wonderful to the engagement of students and the connections boys are starting to make with their peers and teachers and the rich traditions and history of the College. This is an extensive programme that requires the full investment of students and staff and I thank all participants for the way in which they have so positively immersed themselves in the experience. I particularly thank our Outdoor Education team for their work on the camp, Mr Daniel Lapolla for his organisation of all activities, Heads of House and other teachers who have so willingly driven to camp, ridden buses with boys and participated in a range of activities to help boys make an optimal transition to their secondary education. As the photos highlight it has been great fun!
