Learning spaces in the Early Years

A sense of satisfaction and acceptance of self is essential for children to get along with others and deal in constructive ways with their feelings.   Our learning spaces at Lockleys North Primary School are designed to strengthen both the well being  and the learning outcomes of all our students. At LNPS we are responsive to research and innovative ways of thinking and the learning spaces in the Early Years reflect this thinking.  Are you wondering why classrooms look different today?  Read more about the research and reasoning  in the article attached below.

Coming soon ... loose parts in the Early Years outdoor learning space

What are loose parts?

Loose parts are natural or synthetic found, bought or upcycled materials that children can move, manipulate, control and change within their play.

Alluring, captivating loose parts capture children’s curiosity, give free reign to their imagination and motivate learning.

Early Years students will have input  with design and inspiration for loose part play at a class level

and be represented on the Loose Parts Planning Team. We are also looking for members of the school community who are willing to join the Loose Parts Planning Team to:

engage in reconnaissance  and inquire about possibilities

source and curate materials

promote the loose parts concept to the LNPS community

Please contact Rosemary Saxon regarding interest and availability

Semester 1 reflections Riley M1/2

Learning at school is fun! We have been building big towers in Discovery Time. I work with my friends to build it higher and if my friends are taller than me they can build it higher than them. When we make mistakes, we keep building them again. If they fall a lot of times, we start building a different tower. Sometimes we build it so that the blocks are up on their sides and sometimes they are flat on their bellies. We take photos and videos of our buildings to remember them.

Mem Fox visits LNPS

The day Mem Fox came to LNPS

Mem Fox read Possum Magic and The Magic Hat. She has a whole collection of books and she even read us Koala Lou. I spoke in front of Mem Fox and lots of people and I asked her questions.  I had so much fun and I was not shy.  I was so happy and it felt good.
