From the Principal

Term 2, Week 4, Kevin Kennedy
Dear Parents and Carers,
Fundraising Election BBQ
I would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to support the fundraising election BBQ at West Beach Primary on Saturday. Voter numbers were a little down at the polling booth this year however the BBQ made a $1500 profit. Great work team.
Volunteers
We are fortunate to haves some wonderful volunteers in our school. Their roles are broad from listening to students read to cooking a barbeque, all of which are vital to the ongoing success of our school. On behalf of all staff and students I would like to say thank you for your support and look forward to it continuing throughout the year.
Uniform
It is pleasing to see the vast majority of the students in uniform but I have noticed that a number of students are increasingly not in the school uniform. As outlined in the Uniform Policy the school uniform colours are royal blue tops and dark grey or charcoal bottoms. Bottoms are not to be black or light grey in colour as some students are currently wearing. We have some second hand uniforms in very good condition that are available or you can purchase new uniforms from Westside School Wear (www.westsideschoolwear.com.au). The importance of the school uniform and why it is encourage is outlined in the schools Uniform Policy, it will be sent out on Skoolbag today.
50th Birthday Celebrations
The Governing Council has settled on a date for our birthday celebrations; Friday the 13th of September. It will be an open day/evening event featuring memorabilia from the last 50 years, an opportunity to tour the school, guest speakers, music & food and an opportunity for old scholars to catch up and reminisce.
We will begin advertising shortly. Should you know any old scholars please let them know about the event and invite them to come along.
I have found some old year books dating back to the early 70’s.
Reconciliation Week Assembly
Next week is Reconciliation week and to celebrate we are having a whole school assembly on Friday 31st at 9:10am. Rod O’Brien (Uncle Rodney) has kindly agreed to do the Welcome to Country (thanks Rebecca). The assembly will also feature a flag raising ceremony on the lawns, followed by the presentation of student work in the hall. We’d love to see you there.
Obstacle Course
Our obstacle course has been up and running for several months now and it is an opportune time to thank the Government of South Australia for their kind donation through the Fund My Neighbourhood Grant. The obstacle course will benefit the health and well-being of West Beach Primary students and the broader community for year to come.
Should you have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me or pop in for chat.
Kind regards,
Kevin Kennedy
Principal
