Attitude to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's

schooling experience.

I would like to thank our students for participating in the Survey that was

conducted last Thursday, 26 April.

The survey results will be reported back to the school before the end of term 2.

All survey data that is made available in reports are for groups of students only so that no individual student can be identified. Last year we used the survey results to plan school curriculum and student empowerment and wellbeing

initiatives. The survey results were communicated to the school community through our Annual Report. We will also do likewise for this year’s survey results.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is on Wednesday, 16 May 2018. Harmony Day is a celebration of the richness of our diversity in ethnicity, culture, tradition and way of life, but most importantly, the day is about the celebration of living together in harmony, respecting diversity and the power of unity.

The Student Parliament sub-committees are working with myself in the organisation of the Harmony Day Assembly. Over the last 8 years, Harmony Day assemblies have showcased cultural performances (songs and dances) from the students.

Kai Cappel (Year 12), one of the Student Parliament members, has set up a Google Form for entries for performances, and has circulated a link to the form to the student body. Any student interested in participating in the Harmony Day Assembly Concert, please sign up on the Google Form or see Kai.

Premier's Active April Program

Throughout April, JMSS has been participating in the Premier's 'Active April' program - an initiative that encourages participants to be active and aim to engage in 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

In total, 333 members of our school community signed up to participate and it has been fantastic to see groups of staff and students striving to include more physical activities as part of each day throughout April.

I am very pleased and proud that we have ‘clocked’ up 7298 hours of physical activity.  Beyond this month’s program, I hope we will continue with activities that will build our physical health.  Studies have shown that  a solid physical health has positive impact on our mental heath and subsequently on our learning, thinking and decision-making.

Thank you to the students and staff who helped promote and facilitate the program here at the school, and well done to all our Active April participants.
