Debating

DAV Round 5

Was contested on the 18th June 2014, with excellent results from the St Bede’s College Debating squad. The final DAV “home and away” ladders have been finalised and it is great news for St Bede's College. 

 

Whilst our juniors were competitive, we have THREE higher grade teams off to the State Finals –

 

Congratulations to A Grade (Pat Callanan, Josh Martinelli, Kaih Mitchell, Cam Dimeck and Nic Diakageorgiou) and Mr Rob Harrod.

 

Congratulations to B Grade 1 (Nelson McKiggan, Joe Russo, and Kent Bennett) and Ms Robyn Kensley.

 

Congratulations to C Grade 1 (David Antolos, Patrick Heenan, Nic Pudney and Owen Casey) and Ms Meghan McLean.

 

Well done to all of those who have debated and assisted with preparations for Round 5, also to Robbie Evans and Simon O’Loughlin for helping the squad as needed, results were:

A Grade : Nicholas Diakageorgiou, Patrick Callanan and Kaih Mitchell, won against St Leonard’s 1 by one point.  Best Speaker – Kaih Mitchell.

Congratulations to the whole Year 12 squad and Mr. Rob Harrod, SBC finished equal top of the A Grade Bayside section for the season.

B Grade : SBC 1, Matthew Cassar, Emilio Lanera and Darragh Tate, won by two points against Albert Park College 1.

SBC 2, Joseph Russo, Nelson McKiggan and Kent Bennett, won by one point against Brighton Grammar School 2.  Best Speaker –Joe Russo

 

C  Grade: SBC 1, Patrick Heenan, Nicholas Pudney and Owen Casey, won by two points against St Leonard’s 4.    Best Speaker, Owen Casey.

Congratulations 

to this whole team and Ms. Meghan McLean 

on their undefeated season in the C Grade Bayside section.

 

 

SBC 2, Kyle Conway, John Haycroft , Simon O’Loughlin, won on a forfeit from Firbank Grammar 2.

D Grade: SBC 1, Jackson Lee, Nicholas Gale and Max Vaughan, won by one point against St Leonard’s 4.  

Best Speaker, Max Vaughan.

 

SBC 2, Joel Bright, Aaron Gill and Liam Mulcahey, won by one point against Star of The Sea 1.         Best Speaker, Aaron Gill.

 

Congratulations to this team and to Ms. Sally Spencer, for their first win of the season. It’s great to finish on a high, after being so close, so often. Well done SBC 2.

 

SBC 3, won on a forfeit by Sandringham Secondary College.

A terrific season in every respect by the SBC Debaters, well done to all. I especially wish to acknowledge the parents, grandparents, siblings and friends who continue to turn out in  good numbers to support our boys.

We appreciate your ongoing enthusiasm and respect. To Rob Harrod, Ben Wilson, Robyn Kensley, Michael Moses, Sally Spencer and Meghan McLean, all fabulously talented and committed staff mentors, many thanks to you for leading the teams through a very competitive season of debating.
