Donation to Malawi
Barry Heard has sent wonderful news that St Bede's has made a very large donation to help with the project to provide emergency electricity to our hospital that operates in rural Malawi.
Australia is the lucky country and we know the lights and electricity power will come on as soon as we push the button. We don’t even think about it. It works. But not in the hospital I work in. Most days there are power outages for 2 to 6 hours. Sometimes all day.
The tragedy is when there is no electricity the oxygen concentrator and suction machines are inoperable and babies die.
Hospital records reveal that three in every 100 births die due to power outages.
And every year over 1500 babies born at the hospital.
Young children suffering from Anaemia and Pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy can also die or be neurologically impaired when the equipment is inoperable.
We all know that babies and young children should not die just because the electricity is turned off and your wonderful gift will help prevent these needless deaths
Attached are a couple of photos. We would like to include St Bede's College on our donation list which is part of our web site. www.stmichaelsguilleme.org
We are still building the web site but if you or any of the students would like to ask questions please go to the “Contact Us” page and on the bottom next to the map there is a place for questions or comments. Just hit the submit button and your questions will come direct to me.
Barry, Harold, Bill, the patients and staff of St Michael’s Guilleme and myself would like to thank you for your generous donation.
My very best wishes,
David Howlett
