Year 12 students
Are reminded of the very important VTAC student and parent information session on Thursday 31st July in the Kilbreda College Hall commencing 7 pm and concluding at 8 pm. Vital information will be given out on this night to assist them with their VTAC applications. We are extremely lucky to have Suzanne Connelly from VTAC present directly to our Year 12 school community.
Careers Insight Evening
On Tuesday 24th June the Careers Department, in consultation with the Old Collegians, ran another very successful Careers Insight Evening. On this night we had over 50 ex St Bede’s College students (ages ranged from 22 to 50+ years old) speak to our Year 10, 11 and 12 students with their parents about their own career journeys. For example, how they came to choose their career, what course/s they had completed, the future of their industry and other very useful advice. Many students had the opportunity to have individual time to speak to each presenter. The students were able to choose up to four sessions. Although this day started as a weather blizzard, I am pleased to say that 95% of the students who nominated to attend did in fact attend and the feedback was extremely positive to. Due to its continued success we hope to again offer a similar event next year.
Careers News
Each week a Careers Newsletter is published under the link Publications. This is my direct way of informing our large community about new courses, VTAC seminars and application procedures, exciting career seminars, work experience news, university and TAFE news etc. Each week I email all the students in years 10, 11 and 12 informing them of the content of the current newsletter and giving them a link to access the website.
Work Experience
Over the coming four weeks all our year 10 students will have completed their work experience. This is such a wonderful opportunity for the boys to trial out different jobs, reaffirm their own ideas on career choice, speak to people in the industries they are interested in working plus, for some, a first taste of the world of work. We are very appreciative of the people who take on our students as it is not always an easy task. The truth is it is getting harder for students to find placements as many employers are reluctant to take on a work experience student, so to have over 220 students all completing a week of work experience is a huge task and a big thank you to Jill Gamble who assists many of the students.
