Year 8 Mathematics

The top students in each Year 8 class are exposed to Extended Problem Solving classes once per cycle. Questions are posed and students are expected to hypothesise outcomes, often using hands on activities to prove or disprove their theories.

Today in advanced maths class we participated in the learning activity ‘Hunting For Stars’. This activity involved me and my peers hypothesising what shape the string would make when we put it around different amounts of chair legs. For example if we used 10 chair legs and we had to put the string around every 4th leg we would estimate what shape the outcome would be then use the string and find out.  (Harvey Gleeson 8.5)
