From the Principal

Term 4, Week 8, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Families,

End or Year Concert

What a brilliant night, good weather and great songs helped make it an enjoyable evening. The students did an amazing job, showcased their talents and performed their hearts out. I would like to thank all the West Beach staff for helping make the event the success it was. I would also like to acknowledge our wonderful volunteers who cooked the BBQ and helped raffle tickets and making costumes. Another big thank you to everyone who contributed to the silent auction baskets, they were great value. Finally thank you to all who attended, it was another great turnout.

Class Placements

We have almost finished placing students into classes for next year. It is a difficult process with so much to consider; such as gender balance, behaviour/academic challenges and friendship requests. Friendship requests are the most challenging as parents can request different friends to their children. Also a child may select a friend but the individual they have selected hasn’t selected them.   Another inhibiting factor is also there is often only a couple of classes students can be divide into which makes separating individuals a challenge. Despite all this staff are happy with the balance of the classes and are looking forward to next year.

New Teachers

We have three new teachers starting next year. Tina Watson will be teaching a reception class. Tina is an experienced junior primary teacher  and is joining us from Naracoorte South Primary. James Egan will be teaching a year 4/5 class he also joining us from the South East, transferring from Mulga Street Primary.  Finally, Jarrad Faehrmann will be joining us from Peterborough Primary School in the mid north. Jarrad will be teaching a year 1/2 class.

Well-Being Coordinator

Congratulations to Tina Mouzakitis, she has won the Well Being and Intervention Coordinator role for 2020. We are increasing the role to 4 days a week to better support the well-being needs of our students. Along with increasing the coordinators time we will be starting several new well-being programs next year such as Interoception and Grow Wellbeing. More information about these programs will be sent home to parents shortly.

Happy Holidays

On behalf of West Beach staff I would like to wish all our families a happy and safe holiday break. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you next year.

Drive safely and enjoy some family time.
