An Invitation to Students to Join our Vocal Ensembles
We have exciting things planned for our Co-curricular Music Program this year and we are thrilled to offer an opportunity for students to join our Primary and Secondary vocal ensembles.
The foundation for all music education is based first and foremost around singing and the voice. Not only is singing in a group beneficial for all musicians, it is a core and fundamental element in society, improves aural skills, musical literacy, and confidence in performance – and of course, can be extremely fun!
At MAG, we have two vocal ensembles and encourage any students who enjoy singing and music to join.
Our Primary vocal ensemble, Jr. Singers, is open to students in Years 3-6. Rehearsals for 2020 will commence Wednesday 19 February (Week 4) before school from 8.15-8.45am in JS4, led by Miss Codie Ellis.
Our Secondary vocal ensemble, MAG Singers, is open to all Secondary students from Years 7-12. Rehearsals will commence Friday 21 February (Week 4) from 8-8.45am in the Hall, led by our vocal tutor Victoria Pannett.
Our vocal ensemble leaders have a wealth of choral experience and expertise; you can read more about Miss Ellis and Victoria below:
Codie Ellis:
Codie was an active member of the established choral organisation, Voices of Birralee, until moving to Echuca in April, 2019. During her time with Birralee, she had extensive opportunities to work alongside renowned conductors, composers and educators both in Australia and overseas. Some of Codie’s most memorable choral achievements have included competing at the Riva Del Garda International Choral Competition in Italy and recently singing for centenary celebrations on the Western Front in France. Codie has studied choral conducting at university and has since worked with many school and community choirs. She has a deep love for music and is passionate about sharing the joy of choral singing with all ages.
Victoria Pannett:
Singing is a fun activity and leading the MAG Singers is such a privilege. We get to sing a variety of great music, broadening our musical horizons so to speak, and creating some amazing harmonies. Here’s a little bit about me…I’ve been a singer ever since I can remember. I grew up in Melbourne and studied voice and piano throughout my school life. I’ve sung in rock / cover bands, in cabaret, choirs, made a few tv appearances, performed in musical theatre, jazz bands, and even a Madonna tribute show. I’ve been teaching singing for 17 years, I have musically directed several shows by Echuca Moama Theatre Company, and I sing in a local band from time to time.
Participation in our vocal ensembles does not incur a cost however, a high level of individual commitment to attend weekly rehearsals will be required to ensure the ensemble is able to progress and prepare for performances.

Group keyboard lessons with Marg Ross
New to our Co-curricular Music Tuition Program - GROUP KEYBOARD LESSONS.
We are thrilled to now offer group keyboard lessons; a new initiative within our co-curricular music program.
One of our piano tutors, Marg Ross, will be offering group keyboard lessons. For a number of years, Marg has been teaching keyboard in groups of three at Kennington Primary School in Bendigo, and it has proven to be very successful. In a supportive and encouraging group setting, students are eager to learn and keep up with other students in their group.
The emphasis of group keyboard lessons, is learning contemporary/pop music that students are familiar with. For example, students would learn songs from the latest shows, musicals and pop charts. ‘Dance Monkey’ is a favourite for Marg’s students at present.
Tuition can commence from Year 1, or earlier if required.
Lessons also include theory in a fun format, and students will be offered performance opportunities.
Lessons are $15.00 per student for a 30-minute group lesson. Three students per group is ideal.
If students are interested in commencing group keyboard lessons, parents/guardians can complete our co-curricular music application form and return to the Office. Our co-curricular form can be collected from the Office or downloaded from our website here: https://www.moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/2020-Cocurricular-information.pdf
We will collect applications for this new and exciting program with the aim to commence pending expressions of interest. Lessons will be on Wednesdays.
