A wonderful first few weeks
Welcome Back Picnic night
Special thanks to our P&F for organising a ‘Welcome Back Picnic night’ last Thursday evening February 6. Our families came along to meet new and older families in a relaxed environment and ate their tea picnic style in our beautiful grounds. Students had a great time running around playing and eating ice creams and the adults had a lovely time chatting and meeting each other and some new staff as well.
Year 6 Leadership Training
Last Thursday February 6 our Year 6 cohort participated in Leadership training with Mr Gibbs and Miss Higgins. All of our Year 6 students are seen and treated as leaders within the Primary school and our younger students look up to them every day as role models. The students worked in mixed groups and discussed lots of different topics throughout the morning such as :
- Communicating with others
- Working together in a group
- Working out different behaviours
- Managing a group
- Feeling positive
- Helping others
- Open Roads and Dead End Roads
- Being an effective leader
- Encouraging discussion – open and closed questions
- Being prepared and organised
- Useful strategies
Senior Constable Paul Ebsworth visits K-6
Senior Constable Paul Ebsworth visited the Primary school on Monday February 10, which was very timely as Safer Internet Day was on Tuesday February 11. He delivered engaging presentations in the hall to K-2 on ‘Stranger Danger’ and spoke about general safety such as wearing seatbelts, bike helmets and crossing the road. Our Yr 3-4 and Yr 5-6 students had separate presentations focussing on ‘Social Media Safety and Awareness and Cyberbullying’. Paul shared lots of information and involved the students as much as possible.

Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students along with Miss Briggs, Mrs Barber and Mr Rudge are looking forward to their Gold camp to Ballarat next Monday February 17 to Wednesday February 19. We are sure they will all have a fabulous time and look forward to seeing some photos and hearing all about it when they return.
Volunteer Induction
For those of you that are able and willing to assist on a regular basis within the Kindergarten – Year 2 classrooms in 2020, or would like to volunteer for other school activities across the year, you are invited to attend a volunteer’s induction session on Friday February 21. This session will be held in classroom JS4 from 8:30 - 8:50 am. You will also have the opportunity to complete the compulsory Volunteer Declaration form at the end of the session. Please bring along your driver’s licence or photo identification. An email was sent to K-2 families on Wednesday this week.

Moama Echuca Border Raiders Soccer Clinics
We had two soccer clinics here at school on Wednesday, hosted by our local Border Raiders Soccer club. We had just under 30 Year 4-6 Boys’ and 37 Year 4-6 girls participate in the sessions. They learnt the fundamentals of soccer and had the opportunity to show off their skills. All enjoyed the sessions and they even walked away with some gifts from the Border Raiders Soccer club. Thank you to Andrea Barry for organising the clinics. The club does have a come n try day on Saturday March 14. See the attached flyer at the end of the newsletter in the Community News section.
Open Water Learning Experience
On Tuesday, our Year 6 students are participating in the half day Life Saving Victoria Open Water Learning Experience (OWLE) program. This is held on the sandbar near Maidens Inn Caravan Park. The students will enjoy a variety of activities based on being safe in open water environments and in particular the Murray River.
Primary Swimming Carnival Yr 3-6
The Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival will be held at the Echuca pool on Thursday February 20. Many students have been training and preparing for the day of fun competition in the water. We look forward to seeing our students participate in events and enjoy the day. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend and cheer on the students. Buses will depart school at 9:00 am and we hope to start by 9:30 am and leave again by bus at 2:40 pm in the afternoon. Best of luck to everyone and let us see which House, Perricoota, Meninya, Martin or Chanter comes out on top!
Hockey Victoria
Next Friday, a Hockey Victoria representative will be visiting our school to run sessions with the Year 1, 2, 4 and 5 classes as part of the PDHPE/Sport program.
