SRC Report
On Friday, the 19th of March, the Year 10, 11 and 12 SRC representatives attended the VicSRC Regional Conference at Brighton Secondary College.
Our school arrived at the location at 9:30 and gathered with a few different schools from Victoria. Our very first task was to complete a set of questions on a colour-coded sheet and to join a group according to the colours of our sheets. The colour groups were a mix of various schools and nationalities! In the groups we shared our answers and tried to memorise them, as that would help us earn some game points for our groups. This was a great getting to know you activity and helped us be at ease in the big SRC group.
Secondly, we met some amazing people who spoke to us about their contributions to the VicSRC program and gave us inspiration to do the same! These were the members of VicSRC Congress, who have been involved with SRC for a number of years.
Thirdly, we discussed “The Big Issues” and brainstormed ideas for improvement. We then took a look at the actions we can take to improve our committee and our school surroundings!
At 11:20, we had our morning break when we were presented with great food.
The second half of the conference had this amazing activity called the “Powerwalk”. The Powerwalk was an empathy activity, which made us feel more open-minded about the different people and cultures we share our school with. After we had our lunch, we started to think about our 'first step of action' for making our school more environmentally friendly. This goal was decided by our group and we carefully considered what we can do to support our goal of ‘Going Green’. Quite a few of the participants focused on ‘Teacher-Student relationships’. We were pleased to note that this was not an issue at our school, as we believe we have great relationships with our teachers.
Overall, we had an amazing day at Brighton Secondary College meeting the SRC executives from other schools. We learnt about what they had done over at their schools and we hope to take what we did into our next meeting and discuss it with our team.
