TERM 3

It has been an exciting first few weeks for the Instrumental Music Department in Term 3!

 

With lessons, band rehearsals, LHS The Voice finals, 'All Shook Up' production rehearsals, Battle of the Bands and the September Soiree, the PAC has been bursting with great music!

INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS

All students are expected to keep up with their 'Lesson Timetable' both on the PAC timetable noticeboard and on Compass.  Instrumental Music staff are in the PAC on the days listed below. 

 

Piano/Voice – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Karla Nyhuis)

 

Guitar/Bass Guitar – Tuesday (Stephen McCulloch)

 

Flute – Wednesday (Bonnie Poduska)

 

Brass – Thursday (Kent Fisk, Kathy Elsten)

 

Woodwind – Thursday & Friday (Bronwyn Ventura, Kathy Elsten)

 

Drum Kit– Friday (Malcolm Abbott)

 

 

Term 3 - Bronwyn Ventura and Kent Fisk 

Students who learn with Ms Ventura and Mr Fisk will have met Ms Kathy Elsten in their lessons over the last few weeks. Kathy will be replacing Kent Fisk (Weeks 3 – 5). 

 

We're very excited to have Bronwyn Ventura return to teach Woodwind in Week 4.

BANDS/ENSEMBLES

As part of the Instrumental Music program, all students are expected to regularly attend their band/ensemble rehearsals.  All bands/ensembles will be rehearsing from Week 3 onwards in preparation of the Term 4 End of Year Concert.

 

Monday – Vocal Ensemble, Hendrix  and Rookie Guitar Ensemble (Rotating)

Tuesday – Funk Band

Wednesday – Rookie Band

Thursday – LHS Band

Friday – Percussion Ensemble

SEPTEMBER SOIREE

Soloist, Duet and Small Ensemble Performance Evening 

We're excited to be holding the September Soiree in 2015. All students who wish to perform will be given the opportunity to sign up to perform solo, as a duet or in a small ensemble through their Instrumental teacher. 

 

We encourage students to take on this fantastic performance opportunity to showcase their individual skills in front of an audience of family and friends. 

 

More information will be given to students in Week 5 of the term.

THE VOICE - SEMI FINALS

Heats 1 & 2

On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 July the School Hall was filled with students watching the LHS The Voice Heat semi-finals! 

 

Students and staff were wowed by students from Years 7 – 12 who sung their hearts out to make the GRAND FINAL of the competition. 

 

Congratulations to all students who participated in both semi-finals. The judges were impressed by all the performances by the students and hope they all continue to sing and return to the competition next year. Special congratulations to the GRAND finalists listed below! 

 

The final will be judged by the Performing Arts captains Issy Thompson and Olivia Forsyth (Year 12), the 2014 winner Tashara Brown (Year 11) and special guest judge Stephen McCulloch from the 2015 Channel 9 series The Voice (Team Delta – Super Battle Finalist).

BATTLE OF THE BANDS

All students involved in Battle of the Bands have been rehearsing in the PAC at lunchtimes during the week. All groups will be performing 2 songs at the final in October during the LHS October Arts Festival! Stay tuned for more information on each participating band!

TRIPLE J UNEARTHED HIGH

We're excited to release the link to the Year 10 girls Triple J Unearthed High entry 'Disaster'.

 

'Waiting on Apricity' recorded the song in the school Supper Room and released the track on their Triple J Unearthed website this week. We wish the girls the best of luck with their competition entry!
