Vale Angela Docherty

Angela Docherty

At the start of the year a number of staff attended the funeral of a local stalwart and former Kilbreda student, Angela Docherty (shown in Orange shirt with Past Pupil Committee members).

Angela was a gifted nurse and took an interest in many local institutions, particularly the Highett RSL, by whom she was especially honoured during her funeral service at St Patrick and the Holy Angels, Mentone.

Angela was the first Australian-born daughter of Dr. Docherty who settled in Mentone with his wife in the early 50s and was for many years a well-known and respected resident. The Dochertys lived at 88 Mentone Parade, which now backs on to the Kilbreda oval.

Angela started Prep here in 1959 and matriculated alongside former staff member Anne Hoyne in 1971. Angela became a member of Kilbreda’s Stewardship Council about twenty years ago and in recent years has been an active member of the Past Pupils Committee and has helped in the organisation and running of many reunions, including our 110 year celebrations in 2014. Angela was always keen to help and often took on jobs that others wouldn’t want and worked tirelessly behind the scenes on many occasions.

In 2009, Angela donated some items to the Kilbreda Archives, including her old school reports, her jumper and her ‘Hockey Captain’ blazer pocket, which can be seen on display in the College office.  Vale Angela!
