NGV Excursion

On Wednesday, 9 October, the Year 7 cohort had the opportunity to travel to Melbourne to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the National Gallery of Victoria. This trip was in line with the Humanities Curriculum, as this Term we begin our unit on Ancient China. It was a great opportunity for the students to witness, in person, the legacy of China’s first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, which they will be learning about in the coming weeks.

The students all represented the College extremely well. It was very impressive to see the way they conducted themselves among the public and a new environment.

FERRI Program

On Tuesday, 15 October, the FERRI Program went to Melbourne. As a reminder, FERRI is a program for girls in Years 7 - 9 to build leadership and life skills. FERRI stands for Fun, Empowerment, Respect, Responsibility, Independence, which are all touchstones the girls identified they wanted to achieve through the program.

Given that this is a program designed to build skills in responsibility and independence, I will hand over to some of the girls to explain further about the day:

“On the 15th October, a group of Year 7s, 8s and 9s caught a train to Melbourne to participate in an amazing race for the FERRI program. This program was a great opportunity to learn new skills on how to navigate yourself around Melbourne. We learnt how to catch trams and talk to new people so that we could independently make our way around the city. I had so much fun getting Starbucks and annoying Mr Storer. It was a great day out.”

-    Tessa Elliott, Year 9

“On Tuesday the 15th of October we went to Melbourne to do the amazing race with the FERRI program. There was a sheet of paper with questions on it. We had to go around Melbourne to answer the questions, and in the end, we went shopping. It was a good opportunity to meet new people and navigate our way around. Overall it was a really good day.”

-    Tyra Whitney, Year 7

“On the 15th of October we went to Melbourne as a part of the FERRI program we got split into three groups with a mix of the different year levels to go and find the answers to the questions we were given before the other groups.

We learnt how to find our way through the Melbourne city with a paper map. All the girls enjoyed getting Starbucks, we met new people and formed a close bond, in my opinion, the day was very fun, enjoyable and helpful and I would love to do it again.”
