Year 7 Softball – Geelong Champions 2015!
On Monday 19th October, the Year 7 softball team put their training to good use when they played 3 other Geelong school teams to win the coveted “Champions” title at Stead Park.
The first match was against Bellarine, and we cast aside any signs of nerves to win easily with a 9-1 victory. The second match was against Grovedale and once again the girls managed an easy win with accurate fielding and some very sneaky base-stealing to score 8-2. The final match was against Northern Bay, and any confidence we had was tested as they managed to lead after the first innings. We knew we had to do something special and we were lucky to be able to catch a foul shot that saved four Northern Bay runners from getting home – we now had to bat well to secure a win! Thankfully a change in pitcher from the other team played to our advantage, and we squeezed a very close win for the match, 4-3.
The team members were from 7L - Jade McKentish, Mia Robertson, Jasmine Steen; from 7F - Hayley Bath, Morgan Hawthorn; and from 7D - Caitlyn McDonald, Gemma Williams, Georgie Smith, Jacqui Miller, Sarah Garlick, Kayla Moss, Lani Puttyfoot and Olivia Quarrell.
A huge thank you to our Year 10 coaches, Sonia Kacprzak, Misty Hernandez and Kate Kennedy Davis. They helped the girls so much with their encouragement and advice.

Intermediate Girls Basketball team are ‘Hot to Trot’ – Advancing to Altona
The weather was hot – but not as hot as the basketball! On what was one of the warmest days this spring, the intermediate girls got off to a flyer, winning the day overall and advancing to Altona on Wednesday 28th October to compete against the State’s best!
Suitably led by Brittney Murray-Rowe (Captain) and Vanessa Marsh (Vice Captain), the girls boxed their way into a commanding position early in the day, winning their first two games 45 – 0 and 45 – 4 respectively.
There was some fantastic basketball being played throughout the day and our French Exchange student/basketball extraordinaire, Anne Lestarquit, showed the competition how to get it done. Anne dominated the boards and provided the strength under the ring at both ends.
While there were some standout performances by the girls – the day proved yet again, that a champion team will always beat a team full of champions.
Bring on WMR finals in Altona!

Western Metropolitan Athletics
On Thursday the 17th September, just before the end of Term 3, our athletics team made the trip up to Mooney Valley in Melbourne for the WMR Athletics Carnival.
We had 13 girls compete in a range of different events that they had qualified for at the Geelong Region Carnival earlier in the year.
A few of our girls were even brilliant enough to get themselves a medal!
Niesha Hunter - 3rd in the 16 year old Shot Put
Bella O’Neil - 3rd in the 14 year old 100m
Kira Winnell - 3rd in the 13 year old Javelin
Caitlyn Sager - 1st in the 14 year old Long Jump and 3rd in the 14 year old Triple Jump
Our 14 year old 100m relay team, which consisted of Caitlyn Sager, Bella O’Neil, Tanaya Nuredini and Charlotte Hardy-Smith, also managed to finish 3rd.
A big congratulations and best of luck to Caitlyn Sager who won her 14 year old Long Jump event which saw her qualify for the State Championship at Albert Park on Tuesday 20th October.
