Principal's Report

Winter is Here

Wow! It is chilly out there! Winter has certainly hit with a vengeance. I can see the trees are struggling in the icy blast and the flags are square to the mast! I’m taking a little bit of long-service leave at the end of the term and this cold weather is making me even more excited about my upcoming travels to Africa. We will begin in Capetown where I expect it to be similar to Melbourne’s weather but then we travel up to Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana where I’m hoping we will see some sunny weather and blue skies. We will finish in exotic Zanzibar before returning to Melbourne’s July winter weather. I’m really looking forward to many of the iconic sights of Africa like Victoria Falls, the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It’s been a trip I’ve long dreamed of!

Jeff the Frog

Last weekend, 2E asked me to take home their class mascot, Jeff the Frog. Jeff and I had a great weekend together playing golf and working in my workshop. I took a few photos and wrote about the weekend in Jeff’s Journal. Thank you to 2E for allowing me to take Jeff home. It was a real privilege. I hope you all enjoyed the journal.

Growing the Lyndhurst family

The students of Prep D this week, got some great news. Their teacher, Meg Oudshoorn, is expecting another baby, her third now, and the children were very excited! Meg will be taking her family leave in term 4 and we wish her and her husband all the very best with their growing family. Madi Sheather, our Learning Specialist in the Prep-1 sub-school, is also expecting another addition to her family. Madi will start her leave part way through term 3 and we also wish her and her husband all the very best of health and good fortune.

Twilight School

Thank you to the many, many parents who took advantage of our Twilight School during Education Week. Particular thanks to those parents who expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to see the school in action and to really feel part of their child’s education. I was a working dad through all of my son’s school years and I always found it difficult to get involved with his daily learning. The Twilight School is a great chance for working parents to be in their child’s classroom and see the learning first hand. It’s also a chance for parents to see just how different primary classrooms are now compared to what they might remember. Overall, it was a wonderful day. I thank parents too, who had to make alternative arrangements for care in some cases, so that the twilight school was possible. This was also unavoidably complicated by the Pupil Free Day on the Monday prior. We appreciate your support.

Prep Tours

Next week, we will be conducting our regular Prep Enrolment tours of the school as part of our enrolment process for 2020. If you have a child of school age for 2020, I encourage you to call the school and book into one of those tours. If you know of someone who has a school ready child, please let them know too. For further information about 2020 enrolments, call the office or go to…
